Hamburg shooting: Several people killed in attack at Jehovah’s Witness centre

Several people have been killed in a shooting in the northern German city of Hamburg.

Shots were fired in a Jehovah’s Witness centre in the Gross Borstel district, with several people seriously injured and some killed.

Police were alerted to the shooting at around 9.15pm.

They said there is no immediate indication that the gunman was on the run, adding it is likely that the perpetrator or perpetrators were either in the building or among the dead.

German newspaper Bild reports seven people were killed and at least eight others injured.

Hamburg Police said the motive for the attack is currently unclear.

The force added that a large operation was under way in the next-door Alsterdorf district, in the northern part of the city.

The area is a few kilometres north of the downtown area of Hamburg, which is Germany’s second-biggest city.

A number of armed officers were pictured near the scene.
