Schoolgirl inspired by her brother draws on her talent to raise money for hospice

An 11-year-old girl from Bolton has raised £100 for Bolton Hospice after being inspired by her brother – and learning all about the charity.

After learning about the hospice Amirah Bhaidka – who attends Sharples Primary School – decided to set up a JustGiving page using her impressive calligraphy skills.

She was also inspired by her older brother Faizan who previously volunteered at the hospice.

Amirah learned that Bolton Hospice provides a free service, offering support for people in and around Bolton.

She decided to give them a helping hand by creating personalised calligraphy designs on a canvas and sold each of her paintings for £10 each.

She said: “I feel very proud and happy after raising money for the hospice.

“Since a young age I have always had a passion for art.

“I use my own imagination to get creative.

“I learnt a lot about Bolton Hospice from my older brother whilst he was a volunteer there.

“After learning about how amazing Bolton Hospice is and how much they help people I decided to set up a JustGiving page to raise money for them by using my artistic talent and by doing something I enjoy.”

Amirah only just started doing calligraphy recently, when she visited an art museum whilst on holiday in Turkey and saw an artist write people’s name in calligraphy writing.  

She added: “I have been inspired by this and since then I started to learn how to do calligraphy writings by watching Youtube videos.”
