A MOTHER and son have been jailed after officers found drugs worth almost £1 million following an investigation.

Jane Cook, 50, and her son Tye Cook, 30, both of Worcester Drive, in Rayleigh, were sentenced at Southend Crown Court on Friday, following a number of drug charges.

On the evening of May 19, 2022, officers found a “significant quantity” of drugs being driven by Tye Cook after it was stopped on the A127 at Rayleigh.

After a search of the vehicle, police found four kilos of cocaine in the car.

When officers later searched the Worcester Drive property that Tye Cook shared with his mother in Rayleigh, they found an additional four kilos of ketamine, more than three kilos of cocaine and a further 60 grams of cannabis.

Following an investigation into the supply of Class A drugs, Essex Police believe there was an estimated value to be worth around £800,000.

The pair both appeared on Friday at Southend Crown Court to answer drug related charges which included possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, conspiracy to supply a Class A drug and acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property.

Tye Cook and Jane Cook both entered guilty pleas and as a result, were jailed for a total of six years and nine months and for three years and nine months, respectively.

The duo were charged with drug offences and appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 21 May 2022.

Detective Inspector Yoni Adler, SCD, said this investigation prevented “irreparable” harm to the community in Rayleigh.

He said: “This was a huge number of drugs that could not be allowed to hit the streets; the long-term harm to our communities would have been irreparable.

“Both Tye Cook and Jane Cook will no longer be able to cause harm to our residents and have rightly been jailed for their part in attempting to supply drugs.”
