Royal watchers, get ready — it’s almost time for the official release of Prince Harry’s highly-anticipated new memoir, Spare.
The book isn’t yet available to the public, but it’s already become one of this year’s most talked-about new titles. As we count down to the release, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about the new book from the Duke of Sussex.
When does Prince Harry’s book come out in Canada?
Canadians will be able to read Spare as of Jan. 10, the book’s official publication date. It will be available for purchase in hardcover, paperback and digital copies — and an audiobook version read by Prince Harry himself will also be released on the same day.
According to the book’s official website, proceeds from Spare will support British charities, with donations including “$1,500,000 USD to Sentebale, an organization Prince Harry founded with Prince Seeiso in their mothers’ legacies, which supports vulnerable children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV/AIDS.”
A donation of £300,000 will also be made to the non-profit organization WellChild, a charity that makes it possible for children and young people with complex health needs to be cared for at home instead of in hospital. Prince Harry has been Royal patron of WellChild since 2007.
Where can I buy Prince Harry’s book in Canada?
Canadians looking to get their hands on a copy of Prince Harry’s memoir can pre-order copies of the book at several retailers.
When was Prince Harry’s book announced?
Spare initially had an anticipated publication date of “late 2022,” when it was first announced in a July 2021 press release from Penguin Random House, the book’s publisher.
At the time, Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, said, “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become. I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story—the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned—I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.”
“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful,” he added.
Why is everyone talking about Spare?
Despite not yet being released to the public, the memoir has already been making waves ahead of its publication date.
Both official excerpts and leaked details from the book have been shared online, revealing personal anecdotes about Prince Harry’s life as a young royal and his time in the military, as well as details surrounding the tensions between him and his brother William, Prince of Wales.
In the coming days, Prince Harry will also be making several media appearances to promote the book, including an interview with Anderson Cooper on “60 Minutes,” on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” and on the U.K.’s ITV network.
