Russians are using bodies as “shields” on the battlefield, the chief of the military intelligence of Ukraine has said.
Major General Kyrylo Budanov told ABC News: “There are hundreds of dead bodies just rotting away in the open field, in places they are piled on top of other bodies like makeshift walls, when Russian troops attack on that field they use those bodies for cover, like a shield.”
Ukraine’s military has estimated that 800 Russian soldiers were killed in the past day, mostly in fighting in the eastern Donetsk region.
Major General Budanov warned that there will be further strikes “deeper and deeper” inside Russia, without saying whether Ukrainian forces would be responsible.
He said he had been “glad to see” the December 26th attack on Russia’s Engels air base, hundreds of miles from Ukraine’s border.
