‘Stranger Things’ season 5 pitch made Netflix bosses cry

Matt and Ross Duffer, the co-creators of Stranger Things, have revealed that their pitch for season five of the sci-fi phenomenon made Netflix executives cry.

Speaking at a panel event for the critically acclaimed show that stars David HarbourWinona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown, the duo teased the upcoming fifth season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Duffer said: “We did get our executives to cry, which I felt was a good sign that these executives were crying.”

He then joked: “The only other times I’ve seen them cry were like budget meetings.”

The fifth season will also be Stranger Things’ last, with the Duffer’s saying it will be a culmination of everything fans have loved about the show.

They said: “I think that what we’re trying to do is go back to the beginning a little bit in the tone of [season] one, but scale-wise it’s more in line with what [season] four is. Hopefully it’s got a little bit of everything.”

Since premiering in 2016, Stranger Things has gone on to become one of Netflix’s most popular shows.

Set in the 1980’s, Stranger Things follows unusual goings on in the fictional town of Hawkins where many supernatural events occur.

The series features many references to popular works of science fiction from the period including the work of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter and Stephen King.

It features a large ensemble cast of adult and child actors including 1980s child star Sean AstinStranger Things has also rocketed to fame a number of its young cast including Brown, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo and Sadie Sink.

Stranger Things season four was split into two volumes with volume one comprising of seven episodes and volume two of two episodes. Volume one was released on Netflix on 27 May while volume two followed on 1 July.

Production for season five is expected to start in early 2023.
