A PLANE was forced to do a ‘terrifying’ landing in Glasgow Airport after descending 20,000 feet in a few minutes.

The British Airways flight BA1472 left London Heathrow at 7.30am this morning.

The aircraft crew then issued a Squawk 7700 alert after a passenger took ill which told air traffic control that they needed to land immediately.

The plane subsequently descended from 31,000 ft to 11,000 ft in a matter of minutes.

A Twitter user who shared the graph from FlightRadar24 commented on the rapid descent.

They wrote: “That has to be terrifying for the passengers.”

The plane landed at Glasgow Airport at 8.24am.

A spokesperson for British Airways said: “The pilots requested a priority landing as a precaution due to a customer requiring medical assistance, and the flight landed normally.”

Glasgow Airport confirmed that it was a medical priority landing and was met by their duty safety team followed by an ambulance.
