Myleene Klass has said that she blindfolds her children as part of a monthly home fire drill.
In a video uploaded to TikTok, Klass demonstrates how she prepares her children in case there is a fire in their London home at night.
In the video, Klass as well as her three children can be seen practicing a fire drill with the former pop star revealing that she teaches her kids to find different exits before meeting at a point outside the house.
Appearing on BBC Radio Wales, Klass also revealed it’s an activity her father used to do with her and her siblings.
She also talked about the reasoning for doing the drills at home: “We do the drill once a month, and we change the exits. [The children] like the problem-solving side of things as well.”
Klass added: “Smoke gets you first before the flames. You’ve got to teach children to get down on the floor. And we put blindfolds on and make it into a game. We try and see who knows the house well enough to navigate in the dark. I feel strongly about empowering children to know what to do if there’s a fire.”
The TV presenter also said: “There’s fire drills at school, fire drills at work, but no one really does them in their house.”
Klass has a new book out which aims to teach people about basic survival techniques including first aid and what to do in the event someone is choking.
She also writes about how to recognise a stroke and how to extinguish a fire.
Klass frequently uploads instructional videos to her social media where she recreates emergency situations with her children.
She recently uploaded a video on how to administer CPR and wrote: “All my safety vids are on TikTok but going to post here too. My book contains all this information BUT *DISCLAIMER* This is a DEMONSTRATION. DO NOT attempt or try this on anyone that doesn’t require actual CPR.
“Stay safe, informed and empowered. NB. The rescue breaths are most relevant to children regarding CPR as the majority of accidents where this is required/used happens around water/pools.”
